COMMISSIONING OF PAPASE CLUSTER WATER SYSTEM
The President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, 30th June 2020 commissioned a GH74.3m water project for the people of Jeikrodua and its environs in the Awutu Senya District. The project is aimed at providing portable water supply to some communities across the central region.
According to the President, the project, which is undertaken by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) with funding from the World Bank has increased water supply coverage in the region from 63.8 percent to 70.04 percent. He added that the project will supply portable water to 146 communities across eight districts in the region.
The beneficiary districts includes Abura-Asebu Kwamankese, Ajumako-Anyan-Essiam, Agona West, Mfantsiman Municipal, Assin South, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Gomoa West and Awutu Senya District. CWSA has also grouped the beneficiary communities into nine clusters for efficient and effective management of various systems.
The President reiterated the government’s commitment in improving access to portable water in the country and therefore called for support from Ghanaians in the execution of policies and programs that would lead to the transformation of the nation.
He further indicated that, the government through the CWSA has also undertaken similar projects in ten regions in the country, adding that the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation had awarded contracts that would enable the erection of 645 mechanized boreholes across the country.
President Akufo-Addo entreated the business community and investors to take a sprig from the government’s flagship projects such as the One-District-One–Factory initiative by seeing an investment in the recipient communities. He as well urged the people of Jeikrodua to sustain the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic by observing the safety protocols. He advised the residents in the communities to take advantage of the employment opportunities that comes with provision of the facility.
According to him, the Awutu Senya West District had been selected as one of the districts to benefit from the 88 district hospitals that the government would be constructing in the country. He also gave an assurance of his government’s commitment to construct a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for the Jeikrodua community.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kwamena Duncan, expressed the region’s gratitude to the president for the numerous development projects that had so far been accomplished in the region. He reiterated that with the execution of the water system in the area, residents would not have the problem of struggling for water, which, he said, continued to slow down economic activities in the area.
The sector minister, Hon. Cecilia Dapaah, in her address said access to portable water was critical in the nation’s development agenda and said, the commissioning of the water project in the beneficiary communities will ease the burden of women and children in walking long distance to get water and pleaded with the communities to take care and manage the facility properly.
