41ST EDITION OF DISTRICT FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION MARKED AT ADAWUKWAO

Awutu Senya District Assembly on Friday, 5th December 2025, joined the nation to mark the 41st edition of the National Farmers Day Celebration at Adawukwao in a grand style and the purpose was to honor and award outstanding farmers in the district for their hard work and enormous contributions to the growth and development of the district and the country at large.
This year’s celebration was on the theme: “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future”
The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Joseph Odame, in his address, commended farmers for the vital role they play to ensure there is enough food to feed the people in the country. “You are the men and women who put food on our tables and ensures stability in the economy. You are the heart of the district and we say a resounding congratulations to you”.
Mr. Odame further stated that, the Agric department has intensified the Feed Ghana initiative registering numerous farmer base organizations and strengthening value chains to ensure structured access to national support. The department is also focused on training and empowering women in value addition by transforming raw produce into profitable items like liquid soaps, nutritious beverages and processed fish.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya District, Hon. Nyamekye Kalala Eghan celebrated farmers and stated that because the backbone of the district is agriculture, within one year, his office in collaboration with the Member of Parliament through the Agric department have distributed Forty Thousand (40,000)cocoa seedlings, Thirty Six Thousand (36,000) coconut seedlings, Four Thousand Four Hundred and Forty Two fertilizers and Five supplies of Premix Fuel to farmers and fishermen in the district.
“These I believe would boost local agriculture, provide food security and promote economic growth in the country,” Hon. DCE added.
Touching on President Mahama’s “Nkoko Nketenkete” programme design to increase local poultry production and decrease imports, Hon. Nyamekye Kalala emphasized that interested households would receive fifty chickens and feed from 25 committed poultry farmers assigned to support in the redistribution process in the district.
For her part, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency who is also the Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui highlighted some of President John Dramani Mahama’s initiatives for 2026 which include extension of electricity to all areas without electrical power in the Central Region, Creation of Farmer Service Center to aid farmers with loans, advice and farm inputs. Establishing of Economic Tree Farms where cocoa and palm seedlings will be distributed to interested farmers.
She therefore admonished farmers to often adhere to directives from Agric officers.
The programme ended with presentation of awards to some outstanding farmers in the district who excel in different categories. The district best farmer position went to Emmanuel Osae of Awutu Adawukwao community.
The programme was graced by the Hon. Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. District Chief Executive, heads of security agencies, traditional leaders, departmental, heads, assembly member and farmers from across the district.
