DISTRIBUTION OF WORKING TOOLS AND DISBURSEMENT OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO SELECTED PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (PWDs)

At the forecourt of the Awutu Senya District Assembly were some selected persons with disabilities in the district gathered to receive support in the form of working tools and financial assistance from the District Assembly

This programme which was spearheaded by the Social Welfare Unit of the District Assembly took place on the 18th December, 2025 and was aimed at empowering disabilities to remain economically active in the community.

In his welcome address the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Antwi-Boasiako stated, the assembly is mandated to collect tax to develop the district as well as responsible to equip persons with disabilities to become economically empowered and self-reliant so that they can equally contribute their quota towards the development of district.

In his submission, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Francis Yaovi, emphasized on the need to ensure the items and money given to the Persons with disability are put to good use, and if possible, they becoming agent of change to also empower others through the good use of the items received.

Hon. Nyamekye Kalala Eghan, the DCE for Awutu Senya District in his address indicated that Disability is not inability, and every person has a talent deposited in him/her. Therefore, it must be put to good use, in other to prevent people from calling them disabled. He stated “the items you will receive, do not keep it, do not sell it, the office will be doing continuous monitoring of all who will benefit to see how the items are utilized and if it needs some repairs, the assembly will take it upon itself to repair it”.

He added that 54 people are benefiting from the item distribution, with 27 people receiving Hisense Chest Freezer, 1 receiving a laptop, another person receiving a Pop Corn machine, 7 fufu pounding machine, 1 pepper and tomato grinding machine, 1 sewing machine, 1 wheel chair, 1 barbering machine, school fees for 3 people amounting to GH₵8,400.00, 11 people to receive financial support amounting to GH₵ 23,000.00. In all financial assistance and items distributed were worth about GH₵ 250,000.00. On his last note, the DCE, echoed the need to foster togetherness in the district among all people to help promote development in the district.

The member of parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Gizella Agbotui-Tetteh also added that the government has increased the money for supporting disabilities from 3 to 5 percent of the District Assembly Common Fund effective 2026, a good news worth celebrating.

She also indicated that different people will be benefitting from the distribution come next year in other to expand the beneficiaries. She also indicated that she will continue monitoring the Assembly to ensure the disability fund is used as expected.

“No body is perfect, one way or the other everyone has their imperfection. However, it’s good we have a government willing to support persons with disabilities and next year much more will be done” she said. The MP for Awutu Senya West Constituency, also emphasized on the need to utilize the items.
