Theme: Growing for a Greener Tomorrow

Venue: Bontrase Senior High Technical School
This year’s Green Ghana Day was celebrated at Bontrase SHS Technical School, one of the senior high schools within the Awutu Senya District. Dignitaries present at the celebration include The DCE of ASDA, A rep of the Bontrase Chief, The Queen Mother of Bontrase, Staff of Bontrase SHS, Staff of ASDA, Students of Bontrase SHS and Community members. The Headmaster of Bontrase SHS welcomed everyone present to the school and thanked the Assembly for selecting their school to host 2024 Green Ghana Day celebration.
The Director of the Agric Department, of ASDA Joseph Odame then presented the seedlings that were going to be used to mark the celebration, namely Teak, Mahogany and Royal Palm seedlings. He also shared the importance of all the plants. He also made it known that this year, it is purposed that each student plant one tree and own the tree by taking good care of it. He also encouraged everyone present to plant trees in our houses and environs to make Ghana very greener.
The Director of NADMO of ASDA, Mr. Razark also gave a brief address, stating in their field of work trees plays major role; after galamsey activities, sand winning, trees are used to reclaim the land. He encouraged the students to educate people who cut down trees for no reason the importance of having the trees. He cited why normally schools are selected for this celebration by saying students have the ample time look after the plants to grow to its successful stage. And so solicited for their help to make it a success.
Opportunity was also giving to the rep of the Bontrase Chief to give his address. He started by thanking the Assembly for selecting a school within their town to celebrate this year’s Green Ghana. And also encourage the students to take good care of the plants, so that in future their good works can be seen. He also shared a message from the Chief; saying the students should be vigilant especially as we are in election year, so as to not be forcefully or be deceived into doing something wrong or casting their votes based on what someone is telling them. But rather vote for the one who will bring developmental works.
The President’s representative for the district, Hon. Moses Arhinful Acquah, the DCE of ASDA, then gave his speech. He emphasized the need for Ghanaian to be fluent with our local language as it is our identity. He also advice the students their success is in their own hands. He resounded the need to take proper care of the tress they are going to plant as there is a saying that when the last tree dies, the last man dies. He admonished the students to be focused and determined in whatever they are doing in life as who they want to become is dependent on themselves. He also informed the school, that very school electricity will be extended to their school, for them to make good use of the computers donated to them not long ago. He also reminded the students that there is always tomorrow, therefore they should be mindful of their act and decision today.
After the speech by the DCE, he led the planting of the trees in the school, followed by other dignitaries and the students.
