REPORT ON AWUTU SENYA DISTRICT CELEBRATION OF 67TH NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY ANNIVERSSARY.

The 67th National Independence Day anniversary was also celebrated at Awutu Senya District. The program was chaired by Nai Ampim Darko Tetteh (IV) under the Patronage of Madam Eunice Naalier (District Coordinating Director) and Mr. Isaac Godwin Kwesi Acquaah-Arhin (District Director of Education). Special guest of honour, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui (MP of Awutu Senya West Constituency) and Nai Ampem Darko of Awutu Traditional Council also graced the occasion.

Also present were the Ghana Police Service, National Ambulance Service, Ghana Health Service personnels, Heads of Department, Teachers from various schools, Heads of the Muslim community and the town folks.

The anniversary celebration commenced with singing of the National Anthem and hoisting of the National Flag. An open prayer by Rev. Father Robert Ayensu-Appiah was also said. The chairman for the occasion was introduced and delivered his acceptance speech. Notable among the things said was the introduction of free SHS by the government; how it has helped parents and students in the district and urged each and every one to be patriotic.

The parade commander and dignitaries invited, inspected the contingents present for the march pass. The number of male contingents’ present is estimated to be 500 and the female contingents is 875, totalling 1,375 contingents present for the march pass.  Poetry recital to honour the occasion was given, followed the march pass.

Cadets presents begun the march pass, followed by invited schools and some organisation. Invited guests took turns to salute the various contingents marching to celebrate the 67th Independence Day anniversary.

After the march pass, the MP for the constituency gave her speech and promised to collaborate with the district Assembly to work towards elevating the district to municipality in other to attract more developmental works. She also promised to build a nursing school in the district when given the node to continue representing the good people of Awutu Senya West Constituency in parliament. As part of her good gestures, she donated GH¢ 13,000.00 to all the 8 circuits in the district observing the anniversary. The speech was followed by a drum language by the culture group in the district.

There were other donations that were made at the program; donation of GH¢ 500.00 to a singing group made of students by Madam Eunice Naalier given. The NPP Women Organizer in Awutu Senya West donated GH¢ 500.00 to a special child of St. Kilian Catholic School, 70 bags of sachet water and GH¢ 2,000.00 to support the event.

The DCD then gave the presidential address to the good people of the district. She said as Ghanaians we have to feel proud for been the first black national to gain political independence. She then posed a question to be reflected on “What is the significant of Political Independence, without Economic Independence?”. She also indicated that for Ghanaians, democracy is not just a system of governance, it is the embodiment of the struggles, sacrifices and unwavering determination of our forebearers who fought tirelessly to break the chuckles of colonialism and build a nation founded on the principles of freedom, justice and equality. She also spoke about our election, to be free and fair and encouraged everyone’s voice to be heard and vote counted. She also touched on empowering the youth as they are the future custodians of the land. She also advice that we do not take our democracy lightly. And also, join hands, hearts and minds to build a stronger, and united Ghana.

Choreography by students from St. Stephen’s Anglican, Rebecca Moore and True Light schools were demonstrated to all present. Presentation of Certificates and Awards were also presented to the contingents.

The chairman of the occasion, Nai Ampim Darko Tetteh (IV) gave his closing remarks for the occasion, followed by a vote of thanks and a closing prayer by Mallam Wahaba.
