VOTER REGISTRATION EXERCISE ENDS IN THE DISTRICT
The voter registration exercise which began on the 7th May 2024 and was expected to end on 27th May but was extended to 29th May has successfully come to an end. Despite a rocky start, the registration process has been largely smooth and successful.
According to the District Head of Electoral Commission, Madam Patience Ababio, the initial challenge that has to do with the machines and network did not persist throughout the exercise. She also emphasized that the turnout has been high, with a significant number of eligible citizens taking advantage of the opportunity to register. Notably, there have been no other major challenges or issues reported since the initial machine glitches were resolved
According to the Honourable Alfred Ebo Johnson, the New Patriotic Party Representative, the decision to bring the registration center to the district has brought sanity to the process. However, there were some challenges that were encountered during the exercise.
One of the major challenges was conveying people to the registration center, and intermittent weather conditions, particularly rain which usually brings the process to a halt. Despite these challenges, the registration process was successful, and a significant number of eligible citizens were able to register.
He also mentioned that an area that requires attention is the need for the Electoral Commission (EC) to take full responsibility for the process and avoid allowing party representatives to be involved, as their presence often brings confusion and disruptions to the process. There should be the avoidance of the various parties having separate canopies during the exercise
Overall, the exercise was successful, and we look forward to a peaceful and credible electoral process
